3 Handmade Porcelain Beads Natural Cup 21mm x 14mm (00315-001)
3 Handmade Porcelain Beads Organic Natural Cups Ceramic Beads 21mm x 14mm. The shape and textures of these ceramic beads is reminiscent of those found in swirling water, seed pods, mushroom gills, flower buds and snake skin. These hand shaped and hand painted beads are made from white porcelain with brown, green and white glazes. This porcelain is a self-glazing bisque or biscuit porcelain, which is also known commercially as parian.
Parian is named for its resemblance to the immaculate white marble from the Greek Island of Paros.
Each of these ceramic beads has two holes. One hole runs from front to the back, so the bead could be used as the stone on a ring, whilst the other runs horizontal to the surface for more traditional stringing.
The production of these handmade focal beads takes several days as they need to be fired, hand painted with glaze and fired again. The second firing is at 1240 degrees which makes these beads very hard and robust. Each parian bead is created individually so they will vary slightly in appearance and size.
These opaque beads are produced by Monika Skrzypkowska of Maap Studio.
