5 Blue Red White Glass Chevron Beads 11.5mm (00626-001)
5 Blue Red and White Glass Chevron Beads 11.5mm. Also known as rosetta or star beads this design and process originates from the 15th century glass making centre of Murano, Italy. They were produced for export to West Africa and the Americas as a trade currency.
Six layers of glass are formed layer by layer into star shapes, with a final layer filling in the area between the points. The ends of the bead are then ground to reveal all the layers and the star patterning. They measure 11.5mm hole to hole with a width of 8mm.
The blue, red and white colouring has always been a popular combination for chevron beads. These beads hail from modern day China but closely resemble their historical Italian counterparts.
Chervon beads manufactured in China. These are good quality Chinese beads.
