1x Vintage Acrylic Faux Wood Faceted Drop Tiki Beads 13mmx 11mm. Yep, these are original 1950s or 1960s hard plastic tiki beads, kitsch as you like! 13mm in length hole-to-hole and 11mm diameter around the widest point. A note on the term tiki – during the 1950s, American popular culture embraced the notion of South Pacific tropical island life as one of romantic exoticism, tiki is used as a term to denote the aesthetic that celebrated this ideal (it also can refer specifically to stylised masks or figures from Polynesian culture, also seen as beads and pendants). ‘Primitive’ beads such as the ones featured here, would have been made up into some fun jewellery to wear whilst living that dream. Fancy it? These beads are acrylic based with a patterned coating applied. Some beads show a tiny amount of wear on the edge of the horizontal facet, nothing detrimental, in fact it adds to the faux woodiness of them.
